Indlala yegilo iyindlala enkulu ye-endocrine emzimbeni womuntu, futhi izinto ezisebenzayo eziyinhloko i-tetraiodothyronine (T4) ne-triiodothyronine (T3), ezibaluleke kakhulu ekuhlanganiseni amaprotheni, ukulawula izinga lokushisa lomzimba, ukukhiqizwa kwamandla kanye nendima yokulawula. Iningi le-T3 ku-serum liguqulwa lisuka ku-peripheral tissue deiodination, futhi ingxenye encane ye-T3 ikhishwa ngokuqondile yi-thyroid futhi ikhishwe egazini. Iningi le-T3 ku-serum liboshelwe kumaprotheni abophayo, cishe u-90% wawo oboshwe ku-thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), enye iboshelwe ku-albumin, kanti inani elincane kakhulu liboshelwe ku-thyroxine-binding prealbumin (TBPA).
